Creating Time In App
Time in Barrel Savings application is easy to understand. You must know, the Barrel Savings Application does not automatically update your created time for you, it is manual. You must determine when is the appropriate time to select the grey arrows and update your savings sheet.
Your Savings Sheet
The first step on making savings progress is the Create New Sheet layout. Here you will create a name for your savings sheet, one that will pair with your weekly or monthly reminders and keep you on track. This is a required field. Feel free to use whatever name you like, be it an item you wish to purchase or a motivational word.
After, select your currency that you will save next, and determine the savings time frame. The savings time frame is important as it affects how your savings sheet plays out. If you save by the week, or in other words if you get your allowance by the week and expect to make savings additions this often - then your best choice is weekly savings. Same is true as for monthly savings.
Setting Time
Select the plus or minus buttons to adjust your time. The max allowed at once is 8 weeks or 8 months.
▪ Remember: The date of completion is not the absolute date that you will finish saving your money.
Time selection here, are known as 'Sessions' in the Barrel Savings app. You can add more time as you progress - we will explain more below.
For our demonstration, we will set our first savings sheet to 8 weeks.
Savings Rate & Sheet Type
The Savings Rate in the Barrel Savings app is all about how much you intend on saving regularly. Of course, our app is Offline and merely a tracker, you will not be making lodges to the app at all. In our demonstration we chose €65. For many, this is a manageable amount but it lends its edge to the High Value Currency option. When you select a rate that is in the low denomination class, you will naturally choose Low Value Currency option.
In the main savings sheet layout, the top left corner will display your currency type selection. In the View All layout where you keep your recent, active or completed savings sheets you will also see the savings sheet type for organization and categorization.
Charting
As you type your savings into the app, you have free access to charting tools. Accessible through the charting icon on the left side of the Average Savings box. The chart insights available are neatly organized in the tooltip information upon selection.
You will notice +Barrel Savings or Barrel Savings% information. This is useful information and you will find yourself coming back to it regularly in a very optimistic humor.
▪ It's a very exciting experience to use the Barrel Savings App
Adding Time & Updating
You can add time to the app freely, but you must know an important distinction that separates Barrel Savings from other savings apps. After accessing Edit Savings Completion we added 5 weeks to the plan - and when returning to the main savings sheet the Circular Arrows changed from color Blue to Grey.
For the best savings experience, do not select the arrows immediately. Doing so is only required when entering the next session period or before the next session period.
When Updating your savings sheet there are three conditions:
▪ You Update when the date has met the subsequent session.
▪ You Update before reaching the subsequent session (Demonstrated clearly in our video here).
▪ Many sessions have progressed already, this provides a great savings experience when updating the savings sheet. You can then update at any point in time.
In the Chart Dashboard, you will note a new Savings Rate Total is present - generated after additional time has been calculated to your Savings Sheet. Performed under the Option Menu 'Edit Savings Completion'.
Consistency is Key
When we mention 'Make Consistent Chart Progress' what we are referring to is
✓ You must make savings additions often, by the week/month
✓ You must make sure that enough progress has been met to keep you on track.
As demonstrated in the video, our progress is consistent and we are happy with it. On week 6 out of the 8 week sessions, we decide to update the savings sheet, with the selection of the Grey Circular Arrows. This in turn has updated the Barrel Savings Figure - the all important savings amount we will achieve by the end of our journey.
